TV SPOTLIGHT ON ST AUSTELL SCHEME

St Austell is in line for another new homes development – and a touch of TV stardom – following the sale at auction of a large detached house.

No. 1 Trevone Crescent, a long-unoccupied 1920s four-bedroom property set in a quarter of an acre of gardens, was sold to Redruth-based Lowena Homes Ltd for £376,000.

Recording the event was a camera crew from BBC One’s “Homes Under The Hammer” programme, which is presented by Martin Roberts and Lucy Alexander and claims to “uncover the tricks of the property auction trade.”

“We had no idea we had been filmed for the programme until one of the crew spoke to us afterwards,” said Andy Parsons, sales director of Redruth-based The New Homes Company, agents for Lowena Homes.

“They explained that the programme would be broadcast sometime next year and that they would like to return to do more filming with us in connection with this site, and we readily agreed.”

For Andy, it was a case of poacher turned gamekeeper. It was the first time he had bid to buy at an auction, having joined The New Homes Company two years ago from Stratton Creber, for whom he was involved in auctions on behalf of sellers.

He was accompanied at the St Austell auction by Lowena Homes managing director David Worlledge, who said afterwards: “We have an open mind at the moment, but this site certainly has the potential for a quality development of apartments to reflect the mature gardens around the house.

“It attracted a lot of interest and Andy was bidding against several other developers. We are now instructing local architects Alan Leather Associates to draw up proposals and we will then consult with Restormel Borough Council’s planning department on how best to proceed.”

It was the first time Lowena Homes, which specialises in low-cost, rapidly erected homes for first-time buyers, had bid for a site at auction.'
