"While it was being built, I used to drive past regularly to watch its progress from behind the fence. I told everyone that I was buying a flat ‘which was small, but it's a start.'

But when I first saw it for real, I just couldn't believe it - the size of it - and friends who have visited me here have all commented on how big and spacious the flats are.

"I had looked around for something similar, but there was absolutely nothing else comparable in this price range. The whole package was even more attractive with a saving of around £1,500 on solicitors' fees, plus because of the price bracket no Stamp Duty to pay.

"It was all made so easy, with all the integrated appliances already here - washer, dryer, everything, and all with so much space to spare. And with it being a brand new property, I was relieved of any DIY requirements.

"The service from the company has been very good. Their newsletter kept me informed of progress while it was being built and I have had excellent service at all times on site from Dave Matthews. He works all hours and he's always been on hand to attend to any little problems or queries very quickly."

(Right) The architecture has a New England feel that combines brightly coloured weatherboard exteriors and walls with balconies.

Lowena Homes - past and future

Newport, Penryn (continued)

“There’s quite a young age group settled in here and I like the sense of a little community that has been created.”

Donna is very much a “local lass.”  Born and bred in nearby Falmouth, she attended Falmouth Community School and Falmouth Sixth Form and then studied at Cornwall College for her HND in leisure and tourism management.

Her first job was in the sales department at Packet Newspapers, working on the South West Farmer, and she then moved to Gould and Portmans advertising agency in Truro before returning to the Packet group. She joined Atlantic FM in 2006.
